TacMedBat's training “How to save lives” is not cheap. Bandages, infusion systems, occlusion dressings, blood-stopping tourniquets, as well as cars repair and the gasoline for moving – all is covered by TacMedBat participants’ own funds and voluntary donations.

Presentatie TacMedBat door Anna Pochtarenko tijdens boekpresentatie Randland op 12 november 2023

“Soul and body shall we lay down for our freedom“, sings the national anthem of Ukraine. My friend Alia does not agree with the national anthem at every point. Let’s live for Ukraine! Ukraine is worth living for – this is the slogan of TacMedBat, where she works as an instructor.

Before the full-scale war, Alia worked as a lawyer for many years, her hobbies were cycling and hiking. But in spring 2022, she remembered her first education – medical assistant. Together with like-minded volunteers, they founded TacMedBat. The instructors work at the drill ground near Kyiv and in military units along the front line. Since the beginning of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, more than 3,000 military personnel have been trained.

Training for the soldiers lasts several days and consists of theory and practical tasks in severe stressful conditions. The defenders should be as prepared as possible for what they will encounter on the battlefield.

Alia likes to quote Dr Nicholas Senn, the founder of the American Military Surgeons Association: “The fate of the wounded lies in the hands of the ones who apply the first dressing”.

So, what are TacMedBat key performance indicators? The lives saved. For instance, in the battles on Bakhmut, out of 100 soldiers of the unit trained by Tacmedbat, 56 were wounded. And all 100 survived because they knew how to help themselves and each other.

Not only soldiers, but also civilians undergo training. More than 500 people have already completed the course "How to save life".

In the times of war, children continue to study. They go to school every day, although during the air alarms they sometimes spend hours and hours at shelters. We know that schools as well as medical institutions and critical infrastructure, are the targets for the Russian terrorist state. When children are at school, their teachers are the ones who are responsible for their lives.

TacMedBat instructors provide training for the teachers and schoolchildren in Chernihiv and Kyiv districts. These areas have been occupied by Russian army, so pupils and teachers are highly motivated, as they have witnessed the situations that require first aid skills.

The trainings are not cheap. Bandages, infusion systems, occlusion dressings, blood-stopping tourniquets, as well as cars repair and the gasoline for moving – all is covered by TacMedBat participants’ own funds and voluntary donations.

Support first aid training for military and civilians in Ukraine. Let them not die but live for their homeland.
